Baby boomers started retiring a couple of years ago, and they’ll keep doing so well into the next decade. But, where is the best place to retire? Why not think about the warmth of Australia?
As a self-funded retiree, you may qualify for the Investor Retirement Visa Subclass 410. As the name implies, you are required to invest AUD$75,000 (AUD$500,000 if living in a regional area) into the state or territory of Australia that sponsors you. You must be aged over 55 (your partner may be any age) and have assets of at least AUD$75,000. Your resources must have been owned for two years and be accessible from within Australia. You must also have a combined net income of at least AUD$65,000.
The Investor Retirement Visa is a temporary visa and is granted for a maximum of 4 years. During your stay in Australia you and your partner may work up to 40 hours per fortnight and prior to the expiry, you may re-apply for another visa on the proviso you continue to meet the visa criteria.
The application process includes seeking sponsorship from a state or territory government. Once this step is finalised, the visa application process can commence. You and your partner (if applicable) will need to pass all health and character requirements as part of the process.
